The Centenario or 50 Mexican Peso gold pieceis was first minted in 1921. On the obverse of the coin, a portrait of the Winged Victory (El Angel) is featured with the iconic Mexican volcanoes Ixtaccihuatl and Popocateptl. It shows the date 1821 to the left, to mark the first year of Mexico’s independence from Spain. The reverse features the Mexican coat of arms with an eagle.
